Crunchy things are my favorite…like I can get a little addicted. Thankfully, I have broken this/ been able to substitute with crunchy vegetables like celery and carrots. However, for a while, those crunchy veggies just wouldn’t cut it…I wanted a CRACKER! I’ve never liked chips, but whole grain yummy crackers that are crunchy and delicious…yeah, gimme! I would go through an entire stalk of celery or an enormous amount of carrots and still not feel satisfied.
Too bad I didn’t have this cracker recipe that is full of healthful ingredients that you can most definitely enjoy in moderation! The best part about this recipe is that you can constantly mold and change the flavors based on what you want! I used turmeric and garlic to flavor these and added sunflower seeds for a little texture.
Turmeric and garlic are extremely healthy, plus I absolutely love garlicky crackers…or garlicky anything really. And turmeric, in the correct quantity or recipe, also adds some great flavor! Not to mention it’s amazing for inflammation, which is so important since inflammation plays a role in any illness or pain in the body!
Not only are these crackers healthier and more delicious than the ones you buy in the store, but you are also helping the environment by reducing waste that comes from purchasing packaged foods!
- 1/2 cup brown rice flour
- 1/2 cup almond flour
- 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
- 2 tbsps flax meal (I prefer to use whole seeds that I grind fresh!)
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 minced garlic cloves
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp sea salt
- Combine flax meal, water, garlic, turmeric and salt
- Mix brown rice, almond flour, and sunflower seeds
- Stir flour mixture into the flax ‘egg’
- Batter should be very thick!
- Roll dough out to about a 1/8 inch thickness
- Cut into desired shapes
- Bake at 375 for about 20 minutes or until crispy!
