We are really trying to increase our intake of fresh herbs and booster foods to improve our immunity and get our health glowing at an optimal level. Booster foods are something that we have talked about in the past. They are foods that pack a huge nutritional punch in a small servings…this is typically herbs, spices, teas, etc.
This recipe for basil walnut dip is loaded with healthful ingredients and booster foods that make it a nutritional powerhouse that is delicious and easy to eat! Try it as a veggie dip or use it to season chicken, meat, or fish!
Basil is a delicious herb that we know for its use in pestos, but it can be so much more! Basil has an energizing aroma coming from the volatile oils it releases, which are anti-viral and anti-bacterial compounds. It is also loaded with important vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, manganese, magnesium, vitamin C, and potassium
Parsley is a detoxifying herb, that is especially beneficial for detoxing heavy metals and supporting kidney function. It is full of many vitamins, such as vitamin C, B12, K, and A to keep your immune system strong, your bones healthy, as well as your nervous system.
Walnuts are full of healthy fats (Omega-3’s) in walnuts are great for keeping the brain healthy. Another great thing about walnuts is that 38% of all walnuts are grown in the U.S., so they aren’t being flown from across the world before getting to you! They also contain a wide variety of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. Due to these anti-inflammatory compounds, Omega-3 content, and other vitamins/ minerals, walnuts have also found to promote bone health, weight loss, and lowered abdominal fat.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh basil
- 1 cup fresh parsley
- 1/4 cup walnuts
- juice of 1 lemon
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/2 tsp himalayan pink sea salt
Directions:
- Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth!
