We all know that it’s important to feed and fuel our bodies properly with a healthful diet, but do you think about the other aspects of your life? A clean diet is only one part of reducing your exposure to toxic ingredients. Sure, there are things that we don’t have control over- environmental pollution, the ingredients when we eat out at restaurants with friends, etc. BUT there are a lot of things that we DO have control over, so we should make the best choices in those instances (food, cleaning products, skincare products, etc!).
Did you know that your skin is your body’s largest organ? It is also extremely porous, so it absorbs whatever you put onto it. The lotion that you rub on it every day, the water that you bathe in, all absorbs into your skin. In fact, ‘A study published in the American Journal of Public Health looked into the skin’s absorption rates of chemicals found in water. It showed that the skin absorbed an average of 64% of total contaminant dosage. Other studies found the face to be several times more permeable than broad body surfaces and an absorption rate of 100% for underarms and genitalia. And another peer-reviewed study showed 100% absorption for fragrance ingredients.‘
Doesn’t that make you think about what you are putting on your body? Especially considering that most products available to us on the market are loaded with toxic chemicals, carcinogens, irritants, and allergens. These products literally absorb into your body, blood, and lymphatic system, disrupting your hormones, putting a stress on your detox pathways, and overall wreaking havoc on your system.
The United States hasn’t passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938. EXCUSE ME? Meanwhile, the European Union has spent the past two decades banning or restricting more than 1,300 ingredients…the US has only partially restricted 11…TO DATE.
So yeah, even your all natural and organic skincare products may not be as safe as you think. I have a few skincare lines that I love, but I contacted one of my all time favorite to bring a giveaway to you guys! This company is called Evan Healy and I am constantly blown away by the work that they are doing! The sourcing of the ingredients, how they give back to communities, and the overall quality of the product is absolutely amazing. I absolutely recommend that you read all about their amazingness on their website here. I truly think that you will be blown away as well.
To enter the giveaway for the rose kit pictured above, subscribe to holisticrendezvous.com and/or like and comment the post on my instagram!
I also wanted to point out another company that I feel is truly making change in the beauty industry and that’s Beautycounter. They have actually created their own safety standards for skincare, banning more than 1500 ingredients from their products. I like to think of Evan Healy as a truly hippie skincare line and Beautycounter as your more mainstream safe skincare. Evan Healy uses plants and that’s pretty much it, while Beautycounter still uses ingredients that you may not recognize the name of- but that are still SAFE. Beautycounter is also lobbying in Washington and really pushing for change to make products safer which I think is incredible and yet another reason to love their products as well. I am kind of obsessed with the Charcoal Face Mask, Cleansing Balm, and the Citrus Rosemary Body Oil. You can order these products, a ton more, and learn a whole lot more through my amazing sister here.
Let’s talk makeup real fast because that also goes on your skin… and most of it is TOXIC. Beauty counter also has safe makeup that WORKS which is huge because most all natural and organic makeup is just shit to be honest. Again, I put most of those brands in the ‘hardcore hippie’ category and unfortunately I haven’t found a brand in that which performs. I rarely wear makeup, but when I do, I want that shit to work and be fabulous. I also use Tarte, which is another great makeup company that doesn’t use parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, synthetic fragrances and gluten, just to name a few. It doesn’t have an extreme no list like Beautycounter, but this is another brand that I know works, is beautiful, and avoids most shit ingredients that are typically in beauty products. Plus, their mascara is out of this world…buy that shit!
Safe deodorant…that works. I love the following brands:
Holistic Rendezvous Homemade Deodorant
I truly hope this helps you start buying SAFE products for your skin! See you on Instagram…Can’t wait to give one of you guys this amazing kit from Evan Healy! <3

Maybe I need a make-up switch as well. Also, looking into that raffle for Evan Healy .. What kind of skin is it good for?
