We are in the transition of moving from the abundance of light and energy that the summer months provide towards the cooler months of winter. The cooler months literally draw us into our homes, into ourselves. As a culture, we are experts at living busy lives that keep us externally focused and going all the time. This winter, instead of seeing the natural push towards slowing down and drawing in as a set‐back, I encourage all of us to embrace the lessons that this season has to offer. One of my favorite ways to indulge in some cozy me time is to light a candle and take a bath. There is something so divine about the warm water enveloping you like a soft blanket and the flickering light of a candle to provide comfort. I have developed a simple bath recipe and candle recipe filled with warming essential oils to make you feel at home in your own skin as you journey into self‐discovery over these next few months. May you all fall deeply in love with who you are!
These recipes are also the perfect holiday gift to create for your loved ones. Whether you are on a budget or just need a little extra love to add to your gift, homemade gifts can be the best gifts you can give! Plus, these gifts are actually beneficial to our bodies. If you saw the candle recipe (check that out here), you may remember that beeswax candles actually filter the air and improve asthma symptoms, WHAT! Plus, many people find relaxation from candles and baths, which helps reduce stress levels that may be up during the holidays and aid in better sleep!
This bath salt recipe is especially beneficial as a sleep aid because baths are so calming. Plus, the minerals in the salts help relax your body and give it the beneficial minerals it may be lacking. In the recipe below, we use epsom salts and gray celtic sea salt. Epsom salts contain Magnesium and Sulfate, which are extremely important in many biological processes. The benefits of Epsom Salt baths are widely researched and professed by many. The Sea Salt will contain other trace minerals that are also beneficial to your body.
Magnesium is known for its calming effects, making it extremely beneficial for a bedtime bath. Not only that but Magnesium is necessary for over 300 enzymatic activities in the body which are responsible for things such as generating energy for cells and controlling critical neurotransmitters. It is also vital for bone health since it is critical for Calcium absorption. On top of all that, many of us are deficient in Magnesium because of depleted soils, filtered water, and tap water which no longer contains minerals. This deficiency can lead to high blood pressure, heart problems, hyperactivity, muscle pain, and other health issues.
Sulfate is also essential for many biological processes. It helps flush out toxins, improves the absorption of other nutrients; and helps form proteins in joints, brain tissue, and mucin proteins.
**Magnesium and Sulfate are both readily absorbed through the skin, making a bath the perfect way to increase these beneficial minerals!
