Let’s be serious, when we travel, it’s easy to get off track on our health goals. We try all the amazing restaurants, go out for drinks, spend less time working out, and tend to end up slightly dehydrated from airplanes and just overall busyness. Lucky for you, I have mapped out my favorite travel essentials to keep you feeling your best while on vacation and subsequently, when you get home!
First of all, I hope your travels are actually a vacation, because this reduction of stress is immensely beneficial for your health and will almost negate the ‘unhealthy’ things you may be doing to your body while traveling. Stress is one of the most inflammatory ‘things’ you can do to your body and is responsible for almost every disease. So my number one tip… enjoy yourself while traveling and get rid of stress!
That includes the stress of sticking to your health goals 100%! I am all about practicing balance and treating yourself, especially when on vacation, because who needs the stress of perfection! Not me! Go out, have the drink, eat the burger, and have fun! This list of travel essentials is all about helping you feel your best when you are traveling so that you can make the most out of your adventures! By following a few key principles, you can feel amazing, while also enjoying yourself!
Travel Essentials 101:
One of the most important things to do while traveling is to keep your blood sugar balanced, so you are energized while on the move. This will also keep you from feeling sluggish and tired when you return!
I love on-the-go packs of MCT oil and Vital Proteins Collagen because they are things that you can easily add to almost any meal. Having your morning coffee? Throw both of these items in to add healthy fats and protein, which will keep you fuller longer and give you the energy that you need to sustain all of the fun you have planned throughout your travels! If you really want to step it up a notch, use my favorite mushroom coffee for added antioxidants!
I also love making a trail mix with plenty of nuts and seeds to give myself a boost of healthy fats, which will keep my blood sugar in check! No one wants to be left hangry because you are too busy between meals to get a proper snack! I love these sprouted seeds from Go Raw, but you can combine whatever you want!
Hydration is also extremely important to keep in check while traveling to keep you energized…and regular! I love putting lemons or limes and full mineral salt into my beverages on a daily basis to help with this. I also love nuunn electrolyte tabs, which taste amazing and hydrate you. Plus they come in a super small package that makes them easy to travel with! I love the citrus flavors!
Constipation is something that almost everyone suffers when they are traveling, so I think it’s super important to travel with digestive support. Staying hydrated will go a long way in keeping you regular, but there are other aids that will help you out! My favorites are digestive enzymes and probiotics. I bring these with me when I travel to keep my immune system and tummy happy! I love Source Naturals and Natren!
Another important supplement to bring is charcoal. Our immune systems tend to be slightly lowered after a flight or long drive, so we may be more susceptible to a cold or stomach issue. You do not want to be stuck with a stomach bug on vacation, so use charcoal to help if you unfortunately get one. Plus, charcoal is also amazing to help with hangovers, so you aren’t wasting a vacation day feeling like poop. I love Bulletproof brands coconut charcoal pills.
Those are my main suggestions, but I also love taking:
Wild Zora Bars… or other real food bars like Epic bars !
Fruit-DUH!
Sardines, tuna or other canned fish- I love Wild Planet!
And finally, for my last Travel Essentials tip…
If you’re flying on a plane, pack a travel meal! I love making myself a big salad, bringing an avocado, fresh fruit, etc! You can put quinoa, beans, and veggies in without worrying about them spoiling too quickly. Then you’ll have an awesome meal that didn’t come at airport prices and is way way better for you and tastes much better as well! Unless of course you’re flying into Denver and can get Root Down… AMAZING!
I hope you all found this list super helpful! I will continue to update this list as I always find new things that I love to travel with!
